Counselling for Creatives
Supporting creatives & artists to tend to their creative selves.
Being a deep-feeling, deep-thinking creative human can be a source of meaning, connection and aliveness. It’s a part of who we are at our core.
And… your ideas may be closely intertwined with your identity. Sharing your work can bring visibility, vulnerability and uncertainty. And when your creative energy disappears beneath exhaustion, perfectionism, self-doubt or everything else you are carrying, it can feel as though an important part of you has gone quiet.
Counselling for creatives is your space to make room for your relationship with your creativity and the multi-dimensionality of it all… confidence, resistance, advocacy, pleasure, pain, vulnerability, courage, rejection, success…

TRAUMA-INFORMED, NEUROAFFIRMING and DIVERSITY-FRIENDLY THERAPY
This might be a space for you if:
You're feeling stuck in patterns of conflict or disconnection
You’re navigating life changes like becoming parents, loss, illness, or career shifts
You want to rebuild trust, intimacy, or emotional closeness
You're not sure where things are heading, but you know you want to try
You want support having the conversations that feel too big or too tender to go alone
My approach honours each person’s experience, nervous system, and story. I draw on the Gottman Method as well as (where helpful) somatic, parts-based, and emotion-focused practices to help you feel safer in your body and more connected in your relationship.

What to expect in relationship therapy
Gottman Relationship Therapy
We begin with a thorough and thoughtful assessment phase. This gives us space to understand what’s going on beneath the surface, including what each of you is holding, how you relate to one another, and what you'd like to shift or grow.
Assessment Phase
Session 1: We meet together to explore what’s bringing you to counselling and what matters most to you both.
Session 2 & 3: I meet individually with each of you to get a deeper sense of your personal experience, history, and hopes. There will also be some online questionnaires you will be asked to complete individually prior to our next session.
Session 4: We come back together to reflect on what’s emerged through our conversations so far (and the questionnaires), make sense of the patterns, and map a way forward, so we know where we're starting, and how we’ll move through the process together.
Treatment Phase
We start the relationship therapy, from the solid foundation of insights we have gathered in the assessment phase.
Research evidence has established that couples make better progress when sessions are more frequent in the early stages of therapy and frequency is reduced progressively over time. Usually, this will involve 6 to 8 weekly or fortnightly double sessions (90 minutes), before moving to single monthly sessions (usually 60 minutes at this stage).
During the treatment phase, we move into the core of the work, building insight, trying new approaches, and practicing tools to support more connection, ease, and mutual understanding in your relationship.
This stage is collaborative and flexible. It's not about quick fixes or blame, but about shifting how you relate, communicate, and respond to one another in real time and in ways that last over time.
Frequency & Structure
To get the most out of relationship therapy, weekly or fortnightly sessions are usually best to begin with. This allows time to build momentum, strengthen new skills, and keep the connection alive between sessions.
As things begin to feel more stable, we can shift to monthly sessions for ongoing support and maintenance.

How relationship counselling can help
Relationship counselling can offer a supportive space to slow down, reconnect, and better understand one another, especially when things feel tangled or tender, such as:
You're feeling caught in recurring patterns of conflict, distance, or miscommunication
You're navigating big life transitions, like becoming parents, experiencing grief or illness, or shifting roles at work or home
You’re wanting to rebuild trust, emotional intimacy, or a sense of closeness
You're unsure where your relationship is headed, but you know you want to try
You’d like support to have the conversations that feel too heavy, complex, or vulnerable to carry alone
Wherever you’re starting from, counselling can help you better understand your dynamic, communicate with more care, and move toward the kind of connection you’re longing for.
